Why book with Mountains Path?

Nestled within the majestic Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, the Kuari Pass trek stands as a testament to the state's pristine beauty, offering a classic Himalayan experience. Famously known as the "Lord Curzon Trail," it was discovered by the former Viceroy of India, adding a touch of historical grandeur to its natural allure. This trek guides adventurers through ancient forests of oak and rhododendron, across vast, lush green meadows (bugyals), and past charming, remote villages. However, its true claim to fame is the jaw-dropping panoramic vista it offers from the pass. Trekkers are rewarded with an unobstructed view of some of India's most celebrated peaks, including Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri, and Trishul. Reaching an altitude of approximately 12,500 feet, the Kuari Pass trek is widely regarded as an easy-to-moderate journey, making it an ideal choice for first-time high-altitude trekkers and families.

Synopsis of the  Kuari Pass Trek

IMG-20250131-WA0099.jpg

Mountains Path proudly presents the Kuari Pass Trek, a legendary Himalayan trail known for its sweeping views of some of India’s highest peaks, including Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and Kamet. This trek is a perfect blend of natural beauty and historic charm, famously walked by Lord Curzon in the early 1900s. We organise treks primarily during the spring and autumn seasons, when the trail bursts into colour with blooming rhododendrons and offers crisp, clear panoramas. The Kuari Pass route takes adventurers through enchanting oak and deodar forests, vast alpine meadows, and picturesque campsites, making it a favourite among both beginners and seasoned trekkers.

In spring and early summer, temperatures range between 5°C to 18°C, offering pleasant trekking conditions. During winter, the trail is cloaked in snow, transforming it into a stunning white wonderland — ideal for those seeking a more challenging and scenic Himalayan experience.

The base camp for the Kuari Pass Trek is Joshimath, a vibrant hill town in Uttarakhand, known as a gateway to the Himalayas. It is approximately a 9–10 hour drive from Rishikesh, passing through scenic routes dotted with charming towns like Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli. The journey offers breathtaking glimpses of confluences, river valleys, and dramatic Himalayan ridgelines. The trek itself winds through dense oak and rhododendron forests, vast alpine meadows known locally as Bugyals, and high-altitude ridges, offering unobstructed views of iconic snow-capped peaks. A standout moment of the trek is reaching Kuari Top, where the grandeur of Mount Nanda Devi and its neighbouring giants unfolds spectacularly.

The difficulty level of the Kuari Pass Trek is moderate, making it suitable for fit beginners in spring and autumn. However, during the winter months, snow-covered trails add to the challenge and demand higher endurance, favouring trekkers with prior experience. The trek typically spans six days, combining gradual ascents, forest trails, and open ridges that elevate the experience in both adventure and serenity.

At Mountains Path, we’re passionate about leading explorers off the beaten path, focusing on treks that remain unspoiled by mass tourism. We ensure each journey is thoughtfully crafted — balancing comfort, safety, and a deep connection to the raw beauty of the Himalayas.
