Nag Tibba Overview & Itinerary

The Nag Tibba Trek, also known as the "Serpent's Peak," is a highly popular weekend trek to the highest peak (3,022 meters) in Uttarakhand's lesser Himalayan region. Considered an ideal introductory trek for beginners and families, its relatively low altitude poses virtually no threat of altitude sickness. The journey begins from the accessible village of Pantwari, following a gentle trail through dense oak and rhododendron forests and passing a temple dedicated to the Serpent God (Nag Devta). The summit rewards trekkers with breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of snow-clad Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch and Kedarnath to the north and the expansive Doon Valley to the south. Accessible year-round and especially beautiful in winter with snow, its proximity to Mussoorie and Dehradun makes it a perfect short Himalayan escape.

What is special about the Nag Tibba trek?

  • Perfect Weekend Trek: Its proximity to cities like Delhi and Dehradun makes it an ideal 2-3 day Himalayan getaway that doesn't require a long vacation.

  • Ideal for Beginners & Families: With a gentle trail and an altitude just under 10,000 ft, there is virtually no risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), making it one of the safest introductory treks.

  • Maximum Reward for Minimum Effort: Despite being an easy trek, the summit offers stunning 360° panoramic views of high Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath, and the Gangotri range—vistas usually reserved for much more difficult treks.

  • Accessible Snow Trek: It is one of the few treks open year-round and is famous for being a "winter wonderland" from December to February, offering one of the easiest opportunities to experience a snow trek in the Himalayas.

  • Cultural Significance: The trek is named "Serpent's Peak" and features a temple dedicated to Nag Devta (the Serpent God), adding a touch of local folklore and culture to the natural beauty.

Our company, Mountains Path, offers exciting trekking opportunities on the Nag Tibba Trek, renowned for its stunning panoramic views of high Himalayan peaks, dense forests, and accessible trails. We specialize in organizing this trek as the quintessential weekend adventure, making it a perfect choice for beginners, families, and those with limited time. The trek is designed to deliver a complete Himalayan experience in a short duration, making it one of the most convenient and sought-after treks in Uttarakhand.
During the summer months, temperatures at Nag Tibba are pleasant, reaching up to 25 degrees Celsius. However, winter transforms the landscape into a pristine white canvas, with snow-covered trails offering a magical trekking experience. Winter temperatures can drop to around -5 degrees Celsius, and this cold, beautiful climate persists from December to February, making it an ideal and accessible snow trek.

The base camp for the trek is in Pantwari, a quiet village nestled in the hills. It is approximately a 3-4 hour drive from Dehradun, and the journey itself is breathtaking, taking you through the popular hill station of Mussoorie. The trek traverses beautiful forests of oak and rhododendron, allowing trekkers to immerse themselves in nature. The hike to the Nag Tibba base camp and the temple dedicated to the Serpent God (Nag Devta) is a key highlight of this remarkable trek.

The difficulty level of the Nag Tibba Trek is consistently rated as easy, making it suitable for beginners throughout the year. While winter adds a delightful layer of challenge with snow, it remains perfectly manageable for first-timers with the right gear. The trek lasts approximately two to three days, making it a highly rewarding experience that doesn't require a long commitment but still delivers the thrill of a summit.
Mountains Path is primarily a team dedicated to exploring non-commercialised destinations in India through trekking. Our aim is to pay close attention to the details that enhance comfort for trekkers while immersing themselves in nature. We are experts in organizing trekking tours and excursions.
